Form Follows Feeling | A talk | Mumbai
November 16 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Businesses have traditionally been built around the carrot and stick approach; if you do well, you will get this. However, studies show the century approach works only in cases where a clear set of rules are defined and a destination is seen. It works in the shop-floor kind of work. However the very nature of work has changed and in the 21st century, such work has been mostly taken over by machines. While collared workers around the world in the 21st century do more of right brained, creative work. Design is an embedded part of business today and not something in the periphery. Innovation flows from understanding people at a human level, from understanding their aspirations and their feelings. Form no more follows, function. Form follows feeling.
Machines are taking over the left brained, logical kind of work. The power of AR and AI is awesome. But that power will pale in comparison with the power of a partnership between humans and machines. Through mankind’s history, the basis of man’s progress has been with a partnership; it never has been and never will be a ‘either humans or machines’ scenario.
This will pave the way for humans to spend more time on things requiring cognitive skills, and in designing sustainable partnerships between man and machines. Augmented intelligence is far more powerful than artificial intelligence, and will go a long way for the betterment of the human race. Humans can understand this; because they have cognitive skills, because they have feelings. Form follows feeling.
